Wildlife Watching on Norfork Lake

Wildlife is abundant  both on Norfork Lake and at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental's twenty six acres bordering the Corps of Engineers strip around the lake. The resort is in a beautiful green valley surrounded by the Ozark Mountains and is close to town, but still in the woods.

Both bald eagles and golden eagles are often seen near Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental's dock, as are great blue and green herons. Ducks and geese are common and will come up to your boat begging for food. Several species of turtles including loggerhead, box and painted are everywhere and you can feed them at our dock. There are brush piles under the dock and we feed the fish and turtles every day and the children will love it!

We also host several purple martin houses and they are all full starting in May. Very busy!

You can see red and grey foxes, coyotes, armadillos, roadrunners, bobcats, racoons, opossums and lots of deer.

Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental is an official Arkansas State Bird Sanctuary and we have bird houses and feeders of all kinds. The purple martins and hummingbirds are very popular, but several other species are also common. I personally enjoy watching the bluebirds and we have several houses for them. Hawks and owls are also commonly seen.

The deer, squirrels, rabbits and several other critters come to our feeders every day. We spend more money on animal food than people food but really enjoy the wildlife and you will also. It is a wonderful place for the children to learn about and enjoy nature at its best. You can sit out on your porch and watch the animals without being bothered by mosquitoes. Scuba Steve has been here a long time and has never seen one, although they are present in other places.
