Scuba diving Welcome to Blackburn's Resort's Norfork Lake Scuba Report. Our report is updated about once every 15 days, or as scuba conditions change. While the report will mostly report on Spearfishing it will also be covering other dive activities on the lake. We'd appreciate your feedback on what you would like to see in this report. Scuba Report For

June 29, 2009

The Norfork Lake level is is nearing 561 and dropping rapidly. The heat has subsided somewhat but the surface temperature has risen to the low 90's. The thermocline is at about 22 feet and is being pushed down. The fish are going down with it. There are very few fish above 20 feet. I am getting some very nice walleye at 30 feet on brush. With the lake finally dropping, more and more of my brush piles are coming to the right depth. I am getting fish at about 4 spots regularly and try to expand these numbers by exploring. I do not find a good spot and pound it. I save these for Blackburn's Resort customers.

There is a mud line at about 17-22 feet with very poor visibility but it increases as you go deep. The big fish are almost all in the cold water. I am getting walleye in the 3-5 lb. range and am not seeing very many small fish. They are probably in shallower water.

If you stay at Blackburn's Resort, you can get certified in about 4 or 5 days and have the whole family diving together before you go home. It is an exciting wholesome sport! I can set you up with instruction and gear rental and put you on good spots to spearfish and tell you where the clearest water is located.
