Vacation Deal Finder is
the fastest way of finding current local deals. Click the link above to use the Vacation
Deal Finder. Here is how it works: Frequently businesses do not publish their best prices.
Why? When hot deals become available they are limited in number and go to the first
few callers. Operators prefer this Finder process so they pay close attention to requests
coming in from it. You'll get several offers within hours. Pick the best offer and save!
About Norfork Lake in the Ozarks
The Ozark Mountains are not true mountains but hills covered
by hardwood forests. When pioneers first approached the Ozarks from flat plains areas the
hills looked like mountains, hence the name. The majority of the Ozarks Uplands run from
800 to 1,100 feet above sea level, with the highest being around 2,300 feet above sea
level. Rivers fill long valleys running through the Ozarks. Almost all lakes in the
Ozarks are man made reservoirs created by damming these rivers. The combination of Ozarks
lakes, rivers, and forests offer an extensive list of outdoor recreation activities. The
vast Ozarks Plateau spreads into four states and therefore accommodates hundreds of
thousands of tourists without suffering from crowds and pollution.
Norfork
Lake, a hydrogenation reservoir constructed in the mid 1940's, is in the Ozark Mountains
ten minutes from the City of Mountain Home, Arkansas (pop.13,000).
Weather is well above freezing an average of 45 weeks making year around recreation
possible. Resorts, marinas, and campgrounds grant access to 500 public shoreline miles and
32,000 acres of public lands for fishing, swimming, boating, scuba, hiking, mountain
biking, and nature-based activities. Mosquitoes, crowds, wind, and choppy surface
conditions are all rare on this deep lake which never goes dry. Norfork Lake water is
clean, clear, and fresh. A constant flow of rainfall water drains into Norfork after
filtering through the expansive hardwood and limestone watershed surrounding the lake.
This clean water flows into Norfork Lake via hundreds of small creeks, and the North Fork
River. It then flows out through the dam making room for new clean water. The lake
water can become cloudy after heavy rainfalls, but is not a common condition. In most
areas of Norfork Lake the water is clear enough to see the bottom 20 feet deep.
Mom
& Pop resorts and recreation operations run by hands-on owners give tourists a high
level of personal attention. Fishing guides conduct a variety of fishing services with the
same attentive service. The Army Corps of Engineers operate several parks open to the
public having swimming, camping, boat launch ramps, and picnic sites. Marinas offer boat
rentals, scuba, and full marine services. Restaurants, shopping, and other civil amenities
tourists find convenient and entertaining are 10 to 20 minutes away in the City of
Mountain Home. Many of the tens of thousands of tourists visiting Norfork have been coming
here for as many as three family generations. The overall culture of the Norfork tourism
industry is family oriented, relaxed, and driven by individual independent activities
instead of mass-guided pre-planned programs. Families and friends traveling together
create memories lasting a lifetime because of the quality, undistracted time they spend
together. |
